MEP Konstantinos Arvanitis (The Left) has asked the European Commission to explain its reported push to revise the hybrid meeting format of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) Management Board, warning that the change could weaken tripartite dialogue and the effective functioning of the agency.
In a written parliamentary question submitted on 15 June 2026, Arvanitis notes that the EU-OSHA Management Board unanimously decided in January 2024 to continue meetings in a hybrid format to ensure maximum participation while saving resources and limiting travel. He asks the Commission what objectives the unexpected change serves, whether it has assessed the impact on social partners' participation, and what it intends to do to prevent a deterioration of the agency's democratic, tripartite and participatory functioning.
The question, which cites a report from Greek trade union confederation GSEE, reflects concerns that the Commission's move could undermine the tripartite governance model — involving governments, employers' organisations and workers' organisations — that is central to EU-OSHA's legitimacy. The Commission is expected to reply within approximately six weeks, and its answer will signal its stance on the governance of EU agencies and the role of social dialogue.
