The Delegation of the European Union in Paraguay will inaugurate its first EcoPunto on 26 June 2026 at 11:00 local time at the EU Delegation headquarters in Asunción, in partnership with the Municipality of Asunción and Soluciones Ecológicas. The EcoPunto is a three-compartment container for the source separation of recyclable waste — plastics, metals, paper and cardboard — and will be permanently available on Avenida General Máximo Santos for use by all citizens.
The container will be managed by a waste picker, who will periodically collect the materials and reintegrate them into the production chain, providing the worker with a more dignified way to carry out their work and recognising the fundamental role of waste pickers in the circular economy. The initiative also aims to encourage broader citizen participation in environmental care.
The EcoPunto adds to a series of concrete environmental commitments by the EU Delegation in Paraguay. The Delegation's headquarters was the first building in Paraguay to obtain LEED Gold certification, an international distinction recognising its sustainable design and high performance in energy efficiency, water management and indoor environmental quality. The building also operates with solar panels, and the Delegation's team uses a hybrid vehicle for mobility. The EcoPunto completes a sustainability ecosystem that reflects the EU's commitment to environmental protection.
The public is invited to join the initiative and use the new recycling point, which will be permanently available on Avenida General Máximo Santos near España.
