Parliament adopted its objection to the Commission's authorisation of genetically modified maize NK603 × T25 by 460 votes for, 189 against and 14 abstentions. The resolution was carried by S&D, the Greens/EFA, The Left, ECR, PfE, ESN and NI voting for; the EPP voted against by 112 to 62 , and Renew opposed it 41 to 30 . The objection calls on the Commission not to grant the market authorisation for the maize, intended for food and feed uses. As a resolution it has no direct legal force and does not overturn the authorisation on its own, but it is Parliament's formal political position and is intended to press the Commission to withdraw or reconsider its decision. The coalition was unusually broad, joining most of the left and centre-left with ECR, PfE, ESN and the non-attached. The clearest opposition came from the EPP, which voted against by a wide margin, and from Renew, which was itself divided.
Several national delegations broke from their groups, most notably within the EPP and Renew, where members voted for the objection against their groups' majority position.
