Parliament adopted its objection to the Commission's authorisation of genetically modified maize DP202216 x NK603 x DAS-40278-9 and its sub-combinations by 417 votes to 167 , with 15 abstentions. The resolution was carried by S&D, the Greens/EFA, The Left, the ECR, PfE, ESN and NI, while the EPP voted overwhelmingly against and Renew divided almost evenly. The text objects to the Commission placing the stacked maize and its combinations on the EU market for food and feed uses, arguing the authorisation should be withdrawn. As an objection under Rule 115, it is a formal political position rather than binding law: it carries no direct legal effect and cannot by itself block the authorisation, but it calls on the Commission to reconsider and signals the chamber's opposition. The division did not follow the usual left-right pattern. S&D, the Greens/EFA and The Left backed the objection unanimously or nearly so, and they were joined by the ECR, PfE, ESN and NI; the EPP was the main group voting against, and Renew split down the middle. Several national delegations within the EPP, Renew, S&D, PfE and ECR voted against their group line, reflecting the cross-cutting nature of GM authorisation votes.
