The European Union and Indonesia held their 10th Political Dialogue under the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement on 30 April in Jakarta, reaffirming their intention to elevate bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership and exchanging views on regional and global challenges, including the Gaza conflict and the war in Ukraine.
The Dialogue, co-chaired by EU Deputy Secretary General Olof Skoog and Indonesian Director General for American and European Affairs Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, covered deepening cooperation in digital and maritime security, as well as support for multilateralism and UN reform. Both sides reiterated the importance of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
On the Middle East, the EU and Indonesia expressed support for the Gaza Peace Plan endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and called for a full ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and a two-state solution. They welcomed the Global Alliance meeting held on 20 April in Brussels. Regarding Lebanon, they condemned attacks on UNIFIL peacekeepers, which killed four Indonesian and two French personnel, and demanded a thorough investigation.
On Ukraine, both sides expressed deep concern over the ongoing war, now in its fifth year, and called for an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic efforts toward a just and lasting peace in line with the UN Charter. They also discussed Indo-Pacific developments, with Indonesia stressing ASEAN centrality and an open regional architecture.
The EU reiterated support for Indonesia's OECD accession process. The Dialogue also covered cooperation in the G7, G20, BRICS, and peacekeeping operations.
