Italy has submitted comments on the revised draft Council Conclusions on a Globally Connected Europe, proposing four targeted revisions to sharpen the text's focus on a geostrategic EU connectivity approach, branding, and periodic reporting. The comments, dated 10 July 2026, follow the 10 June meeting of the Council's Asia-Oceania working party (COASI).

In its contribution, Italy thanks the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission for the REV1 draft (WK 7260/2021 REV1) and supports a new revised version. Rome proposes to keep the text sharp and concise, avoiding repetitions and redundancies. It calls for strengthening language in paragraphs 1, 2, 10 and 11 to highlight the main goal: defining a new geostrategic and global EU approach to connectivity. Italy also suggests including the "brand name" as a key element of the communication strategy in paragraph 11.v, and adding a reference to an EEAS and Commission periodic report to the Council in paragraph 12.

The proposed revisions aim to ensure the conclusions clearly articulate a geostrategic vision for EU connectivity, distinct from existing frameworks, and establish a mechanism for regular monitoring. The Council is expected to discuss the revised draft further before adoption. No prior coverage of this file exists in the last 180 days.
