EU High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas visited Addis Ababa on 15 July 2026, meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos to reaffirm the longstanding EU-Ethiopia partnership and explore deeper cooperation on shared priorities, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS) dated 20 July 2026.

During the visit, Kallas also met with members of EuroCham Ethiopia to discuss ways to promote EU-Ethiopia trade and investment, as well as advancing the Global Gateway initiative. She engaged with staff from the EU Delegation to Ethiopia and the EU Delegation to the African Union, and visited Unity Park, experiencing Ethiopia's cultural heritage including a traditional lunch and coffee ceremony.

The visit underscores the EU's commitment to strengthening ties with Ethiopia, a key partner in the Horn of Africa. No prior coverage of this visit exists in recent EU Matrix records. The discussions did not produce new policy announcements but served to reinforce existing cooperation frameworks.
