ChargeUp Europe has proposed targeted amendments to the European Grids Package to support the rollout of efficient, future-ready EV charging infrastructure across Europe. The amendments include updating definitions to reflect battery co-location and align with AFIR; applying permitting thresholds at the recharging-pool level; recognizing recharging infrastructure as overriding public interest; extending rules to support hybridisation of stations; omitting EIAs for small-scale storage (<1 MW) in hybrid pools; ensuring access to Flexible Connection Agreements (>100 kW); calling for clear EU guidance on FCA implementation; and introducing a single national digital permitting portal. The changes are intended to remove bottlenecks, improve regulatory clarity, and accelerate deployment of charging networks across Europe.
