ECHA launches new Chesar Platform for chemical risk assessment on 2 June 2026

Environment, Energy, & Infrastructure · Environment · News · 2026-06-02

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a new Chesar Platform for chemical risk assessment, according to a news item published on 2 June 2026. The platform is designed to help companies and authorities carry out chemical safety assessments more efficiently and consistently, impacting chemical manufacturers, importers, and downstream users who must comply with REACH and other EU chemicals legislation.

The new Chesar Platform replaces the previous Chesar tool and offers enhanced features, including improved data integration, streamlined workflows, and better support for exposure assessment and risk characterisation. The platform is intended to facilitate the preparation of chemical safety reports and exposure scenarios required under REACH.

ECHA's launch of the Chesar Platform is part of ongoing efforts to digitalise and harmonise chemical risk assessment processes across the EU. The agency has previously updated its IUCLID database and other IT tools to support regulatory compliance. The new platform is available free of charge to registered users.

Stakeholder impact
Chemical companies will benefit from a more user-friendly and efficient tool for compiling safety assessments, potentially reducing administrative burden and compliance costs. However, firms may face initial adaptation costs as they transition from the old Chesar tool to the new platform, including training and data migration. National authorities will gain access to more standardised and complete submissions, improving oversight and enforcement. Civil society and NGOs may see greater transparency in risk assessment data, though the platform's impact on public access remains limited.

Expected follow-up
ECHA plans to provide training and webinars to support users in adopting the new platform. The agency will also continue to develop the tool based on user feedback and regulatory developments.
