The Council of the European Union formally adopted the Regulation on the non-application of customs duties on imports of certain goods at its 4186th meeting (Environment) on 25 June 2026 in Luxembourg. The legislative act, under interinstitutional file 2025/0260 (COD), was approved by Coreper, Part 2, on 24 June 2026. The voting result is attached to the note (reference document 31/26), and any statements or explanations of vote are available on the Council's website under Transparency and Access to Documents.

The regulation waives customs duties on imports of specific goods, aiming to support EU industries and consumers by reducing import costs. This measure is expected to benefit importers and downstream sectors reliant on these goods, potentially lowering prices for end-users. However, it may reduce customs revenue for the EU budget and could face criticism from domestic producers competing with cheaper imports.

The adoption follows the ordinary legislative procedure, with the European Parliament having approved the text earlier. The regulation will enter into force upon publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
