On 1 July 2026, a group of 247 MEPs from the Socialists & Democrats, Greens/EFA, The Left, European People's Party, and Renew Europe tabled a proposal for a decision requesting the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations to verify whether the Europe of Sovereign Nations Party complies with the conditions laid down in Article 3(1), points (d) and (e), of Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2025/2445, which concerns respect for the EU's founding values. The proposal, submitted by MEPs including Iratxe García Pérez, Terry Reintke, Manon Aubry, Martin Schirdewan, Tomas Tobé, and Valérie Hayer, triggers a formal compliance check that could affect the party's legal status and eligibility for EU funding.
The request follows a letter sent by the Authority on 22 May 2026, under Article 13(4) of the same regulation, flagging facts that cast doubt on the party's compliance. The Parliament acts under Rule 241(2) of its Rules of Procedure. If the Authority finds non-compliance, it could recommend sanctions, including deregistration or loss of EU funding. The decision will be forwarded to the Authority, the Council, and the Commission for information. The Europe of Sovereign Nations Party, a far-right grouping, has not yet publicly responded. The move underscores ongoing tensions over the enforcement of EU values in political party registration.
