The Screen Food Stakeholders' Committee Workshop, held on July 2, 2026, brought together representatives from EU institutions, industry, laboratory experts, and consortium partners to review progress on the ScreenFood project. The workshop provided updates on the development of reference materials for MOSH/MOAH in food matrices, validation of screening and quantification methods for contaminants in food and food packaging, and a policy update on recent regulations such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and legislative actions regarding PFAS. EUROLAB Secretary General Laura Martin presented the latest activities from Work Package 5, focusing on communications, awareness raising, and stakeholder engagement.
No prior coverage of this topic was found in EUMatrix archives, making this the first report on the ScreenFood project's stakeholder workshop. The event underscores ongoing EU efforts to address mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH/MOAH) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food contact materials, aligning with broader regulatory trends under the PPWR. Stakeholders discussed challenges in method validation and the need for harmonised reference materials to support enforcement of future limits. The workshop concluded with a call for continued collaboration to ensure scientific robustness and regulatory coherence.
