The European Union has extended its framework for imposing targeted restrictive measures on individuals and entities responsible for undermining stability in Lebanon for an additional year, until 31 July 2027. The extension was formalised through Council Decision (CFSP) 2026/1767, adopted on 17 July 2026, and announced in a statement by the High Representative on behalf of the EU on 29 July 2026. Eight non-EU countries — Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine — have aligned themselves with the decision, committing to ensure their national policies conform to the EU's measures.

The Council Decision, published in the EU Official Journal on 20 July 2026, renews the legal basis for imposing asset freezes and travel bans against persons and entities deemed to be obstructing Lebanon's political transition, undermining the rule of law, or diverting public funds. The framework was first established in 2021 following the Beirut port explosion and the subsequent political and economic crisis. The extension comes as Lebanon remains without a fully functioning presidency and government, with the EU continuing to press for reforms as a condition for financial support. The High Representative's statement welcomed the alignment of the eight candidate and partner countries, noting that their commitment reinforces the EU's unified stance on Lebanon's stability. No new designations or specific targets were announced alongside the extension.
