The Council of the European Union has been formally notified of the loss of mandate of an alternate member of the European Committee of the Regions representing Spain. The notification, transmitted by the Secretary-General of the Committee of the Regions to the Council's Secretary-General in a note dated 9 July 2026, informs the Council of the change in the committee's composition.

The document, a transmission note referencing the Committee's official letter IM 4589 2026, serves as formal inter-institutional communication regarding the membership change. The alternate member in question will no longer participate in the work of the Committee of the Regions, which advises on EU legislation affecting regional and local authorities.

A replacement alternate member from Spain will need to be appointed to maintain the committee's full composition. The change may affect the balance of representation or ongoing work within the Committee of the Regions, particularly in matters concerning Spanish regional interests. The Council is expected to take note of the notification, and the appointment of a new alternate member will follow standard procedures.
