A corrigendum published by the Council of the European Union on 6 July 2026 corrects 17 language errors in the German version of Directive (EU) 2016/797 on the interoperability of the rail system. The corrections, contained in Council document 8978/26, affect recital 6, several articles, and multiple annex points, with key changes including the replacement of "schweren Eisenbahnfahrzeugen" (heavy railway vehicles) with "Eisenbahnfahrzeugen" (railway vehicles) in Article 1(4)(c) and (d), and "Fahrgäste" (passengers) with "Benutzer" (users) in Annex III point 2.2.1. The directive, originally published in the Official Journal on 26 May 2016, sets out technical specifications and safety requirements for rail interoperability across the European Union. The corrigendum ensures the German text aligns with the original legislative intent, broadening the scope of vehicles covered and refining safety-related terminology. Member States have eight days from publication to submit observations to the Council's Directorate Quality of Legislation.
