The second EU-Moldova summit will take place in Brussels on 22 June 2026, with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen representing the EU, and President Maia Sandu representing Moldova, the European External Action Service announced on 17 June 2026. The summit comes just days after the opening of the first accession negotiations cluster on 15 June 2026, when the fundamentals cluster was launched at the second Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg. Leaders will assess Moldova's progress on rule of law, fundamental rights, and the fight against organised crime, and are expected to issue a joint declaration. The EU will reiterate its commitment to Moldova's sovereignty and resilience against Russian hybrid attacks, and discuss sectoral cooperation including energy security. Moldova applied for EU membership in March 2022, received candidate status in June 2022, and formally opened accession negotiations in June 2024. The EU is Moldova's largest trading partner, accounting for over half its trade in goods in 2025 with a turnover of over €7 billion, and has provided up to €1.9 billion between 2025 and 2027 under the Moldova Growth Plan.
