The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has opened applications for the 2026 Responsible Care Awards, inviting companies and organisations practicing Responsible Care along the supply chain in Europe to submit projects by 30 June 2026. The awards, themed 'Shaping a resilient future', will recognise outstanding achievements in operational excellence, sustainability, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and national associations, and people-centred transformation.
Operational Excellence (including Process Safety and Cybersecurity, Digital Innovation for Responsible Operations, and Responsible Supply Chain & Collaboration); Sustainability & Environment (covering climate and circularity); Caring about the Smaller: NAs and SMEs; and People-Centred Transformation (focusing on talent development and STEM attraction). Both new and evolved past projects are eligible, and participants include chemical companies, sites, national associations, and affiliate associations that have signed up to Responsible Care or have a partnership agreement with Cefic.
The announcement follows the 20th anniversary of the European Responsible Care Awards and 40 years of the global Responsible Care programme, celebrated in December 2025 when 14 initiatives were honoured. Miguel Prieto Arranz, Cefic's Director of Specialty Chemicals, and Rachelina Baio, Responsible Care Awards Manager, are the points of contact for the awards. The initiative underscores the chemical industry's commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation, aligning with broader EU goals on climate neutrality and digital transformation.
